Project Summary
This bus stop sign redesign was created as part of a larger placemaking effort in the Eastport Choice neighborhood of Annapolis. The broader project introduced nautical-themed pavement art in the roadway and near the community center, celebrating the neighborhood’s deep connection to the bay.
At the time, the city was using three different bus stop sign designs, which made the transit experience feel visually inconsistent. As part of this project, we saw an opportunity to bring more cohesion to the streetscape while reinforcing a strong sense of place.
Inspired by nautical compass forms, the sign extends the language of the pavement art vertically into the streetscape. It adds color, identity, and a sense of place, while keeping the recognizable Annapolis Transit logo centered and clear. The result is a transit marker that feels both civic and easy to recognize, but unmistakably tied to Annapolis’ waterfront character.
